Although the Florida Keys are islands, natural beaches are quite exceptional indeed. Why? Mainly because the waters surrounding the Florida Keys are so calm, the beach doesn't get an opportunity to build up. Bahia Honda has, hands down, the best beach in the Keys, and possibly the loveliest in the Sunshine State.

Swimming is a popular activity at Bahia Honda State Park. The turquoise waters are warm, in the upper 70s to the low eighties a good amount of the year. And the waters are very clear. Though the beach looks out to the Atlantic, unless there is a storm out in the ocean, the waters are calm.

Along with swimming, snorkeling is a large draw to Bahia Honda. The same calm, clear waters which invite swimming are excellent for exploring the undersea world. And if you really want a delight, book a snorkeling tour from the park out to Looe Key to visit the amazing coral reef there.

Kayaking, canoeing and boating are additionally on the list of enjoyable things at Bahia Honda. There is a little marina plus a boat ramp. If you've somehow mislaid your own boat, you can rent a kayak from the park's concession stand. The serene waters are fantastic for exploring the waterways around the key, especially on the Gulf side.

Don't forget Florida Keys camping. From tents to RVs to renting one of their seaside cabins, many types of camping are available at the park. Here's a caution: call ahead to place a reservation for a camping site or particularly one of the air-conditioned cabins. As you may imagine, a beach cottage in paradise has quite a waiting list.

Bahia Honda State Park is located in the lower Florida Keys, a bit south and west of Seven Mile Bridge. One visit and you'll realize why they call the Florida Keys the American Caribbean. Or just call it Paradise.

So come on down and stay a spell. The weather lovely and the natives are welcoming. And once you are here, you'll have to agree that it's paradise found at Bahia Honda State Park in the lower Florida Keys.
